Methionyl tRNA Synthetase (MARS)
Methionyl-tRNA synthetase, cytoplasmic is an enzyme .Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are a class of enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the class I family of tRNA synthetases.
Lage and Dietel (1996) isolated a human methionyl-tRNA synthetase cDNA from a gastric carcinoma cell line. The nucleotide sequence predicts a 900-amino acid protein with a molecular mass of 101 kD. The human gene is homologous (33.4% overall identity) to the yeast methionyl-tRNA synthetase gene.Methioninyl-tRNA synthetase has been mapped to chromosome 12 by study of somatic cell hybrids between human peripheral leukocytes and a temperature-sensitive Chinese hamster ovary line with an altered MTRNS.
