Microtubule Associated Monoxygenase, Calponin And LIM Domain Containing Protein 2 (MICAL2)

MICAL2PV1; MICAL2PV2; Protein-methionine sulfoxide oxidase MICAL2

Microtubule Associated Monoxygenase, Calponin And LIM Domain Containing Protein 2 (MICAL2)
The deduced 1,124-amino acid protein shares weak homology with skeletal muscle alpha-actinin-2. RT-PCR ELISA detected highest expression in brain and heart, much lower expression in skeletal muscle, testis, ovary, liver, and kidney, and little to no expression in lung, pancreas, and spleen.all members of the evolutionarily conserved MICAL family of proteins have an N-terminal monooxygenase domain containing flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD)-binding motifs, followed by a calponin homology domain, a LIM domain, and an ERM alpha domain-like coiled-coil motif. In situ hybridization of rat brain detected Mical2 expression in spinal cord, dorsal root ganglia, and sympathetic ganglia at embryonic days 15 and 18. The expression patterns of Mical1 , Mical2, and Mical3 appeared to overlap but were distinct.
