NADH Dehydrogenase 1 (ND1)

MT-ND1; MTND1; NAD1; NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 1; Mitochondrially Encoded NADH Dehydrogenase 1

NADH Dehydrogenase 1 (ND1)
MTND1 belongstothecomplexIsubunit1family. Core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I) that is believed to belong to the minimal assembly required for catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. Defects in MT-ND1 are a cause of Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). Defects in MT-ND1 are a cause of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy with lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes syndrome (MELAS) .Defects in MT-ND1 may be associated with susceptibility to Alzheimer disease mitochondrial (AD-MT). Defects in MT-ND1 may be associated with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
