Myo Inositol Oxygenase (MIOX)
Aldo-keto reductases are widely distributed in mammalian tissues. ALDRL6, or myoinositol oxygenase (EC 1.13.99.1), is a renal-specific member of this family and catalyzes the first committed step in the only pathway of myoinositol metabolism. ALDRL6 has been implicated in complications of diabetes, including diabetic nephropathy.
Aldrl6 expression in mouse is confined to renal proximal tubules, with upregulated expression in diabetic kidneys. In situ hybridization of mouse kidney sections revealed exclusive expression in renal tubules of the kidney cortex.ALDRL6 shares 91% sequence identity with mouse Aldrl6 and 96% sequence similarity with the pig homolog .
