Myosin Binding Protein C, Slow Type (MYBPC1)

MYBPCC; MYBPCS; C-protein, skeletal muscle slow isoform

Myosin Binding Protein C, Slow Type (MYBPC1)
Myosin-binding protein C, slow-type is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MYBPC1 gene.Myosin-binding protein C (MYBPC) is a myosin-associated protein of unknown function found in the cross-bridge-bearing zone, or C region, of A bands in striated muscle. Using a cDNA clone encoding the fast-type isoform of chicken MYBPC, Weber et al. (1993) screened a human fetal muscle cDNA library and isolated clones encoding the full-length human fast-type isoform of MYBPC. The cDNA for the fast type encodes a polypeptide of 1,142 amino acids with an expected molecular mass of 128 kD. They also isolated the slow-type isoform of human MYBPC (MYBPC1) and fully sequenced it.By study of somatic cell hybrids, Weber et al. (1993) mapped the gene for the slow type of myosin-binding protein C to human chromosome 12.
