Nucleophosmin 3 (NPM3)
Nucleoplasmin-3 is related to the nuclear chaperone phosphoproteins, nucleoplasmin and nucleophosmin. It is highly homologous to the murine Npm3 gene. The predicted NPM3 protein contains 178 amino acids and is 87% identical to the mouse protein. In addition to amino acid similarities, NPM3 shares many physical characteristics with members of the nucleophosmin/nucleoplasmin family, including an acidic domain, multiple potential phosphorylation sites, and a putative nuclear localization signal. Comparative analyses of 14 members of this family from various metazoans suggested that Xenopus NO29 is a candidate ortholog of human and mouse NPM3, and they further grouped both proteins closer with the nucleoplasmins than with the nucleophosmins.
