Phospholipid Scramblase 2 (PLSCR2)

PL scramblase 2; Ca(2+)-dependent phospholipid scramblase 2

Phospholipid Scramblase 2 (PLSCR2)
Using the sequence of PLSCR1 as query, Wiedmer et al. (2000) identified an EST containing PLSCR2, and they cloned the full-length cDNA by PCR of erythroleukemia cell and multiple-tissue cDNA libraries.
The deduced 224-amino acid protein shares 59% identity with PLSCR1, with most of the identity in the C-terminal region, which includes a Ca(2+)-binding site.
PLSCR2 lacks the proline-rich N-terminal region that, in other members of the PLSCR family, contains PxxP motifs that bind proteins containing SH3 or WW domains. Northern blot analysis revealed a 1.6-kb transcript expressed only in testis. Trace amounts of PLSCR2 could be amplified from the erythroleukemia cell line after several rounds of PCR.
