Proline Rich Protein 5, Renal (PRR5)
PRR5 has 3 in-frame initiation methionines, 2 in exon 1B and another in exon 4. The longest deduced protein contains 388 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of 42.8 kD. All PRR5 proteins are predicted to be proline-rich. Northern blot analysis detected highest PRR5 expression in kidney and liver, with lower levels in brain, spleen, testis, and placenta. Some tissues showed multiple transcripts of varying sizes.
RT-PCR of mouse tissues revealed ubiquitous expression of Prr5 transcripts containing exon 1B. Transcripts containing exon 1 or 1A showed a more restricted expression pattern. In vitro transcription/translation showed that each of the 3 in-frame ATG codons could direct initiation; the apparent masses of the proteins ranged from 33 to 42 kD.
