Prostaglandin E Synthase 2 (PTGES2)
  • PTGES2 catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 to prostaglandin E2 (Tanikawa et al). It also activates transcription from a gamma-interferon (IFNG)-activated transcriptional element, or GATE.

  • Tanikawa et al. (2002) identified monkey and human cDNAs encoding proteins homologous to Ptges2 purified from the microsomal fraction of bovine heart. The monkey and human cDNAs encode 377-amino acid proteins that share 97% identity. Both proteins have 87 additional N-terminal amino acids compared with the purified bovine Ptges2, and they both have a consensus region shared with glutaredoxin and thioredoxin.Hu et al. (2002) cloned mouse Ptges2, which they designated Gbf1. The deduced protein contains 384 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of about 38 kD.
