Prostaglandin E Synthase 2 (PTGES2)

PTGES2 catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 to prostaglandin E2 (Tanikawa et al). It also activates transcription from a gamma-interferon (IFNG)-activated transcriptional element, or GATE.

Tanikawa et al. (2002) identified monkey and human cDNAs encoding proteins homologous to Ptges2 purified from the microsomal fraction of bovine heart. The monkey and human cDNAs encode 377-amino acid proteins that share 97% identity. Both proteins have 87 additional N-terminal amino acids compared with the purified bovine Ptges2, and they both have a consensus region shared with glutaredoxin and thioredoxin.Hu et al. (2002) cloned mouse Ptges2, which they designated Gbf1. The deduced protein contains 384 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of about 38 kD.
