SECIS Binding Protein 2 (SBP2)

SECISBP2; Selenocysteine insertion sequence-binding protein 2

SECIS Binding Protein 2 (SBP2)
Human and rat SBP2 share 2 domains with 92 and 95% amino acid identity; the latter domain contains the RNA-binding domain. The interdomain section shares 55% identity, and the remainder of the human and rat SBP2 sequences share 65% identity. Northern blot analysis detected low expression of a 4-kb transcript in all tissues tested except testis, where SBP2 was highly overexpressed. An additional transcript of 3- to 3.5-kb was also detected in testis. The predicted 846-amino acid Sbp2 protein contains a putative RNA-binding domain found in ribosomal proteins and a yeast suppressor of translation termination.Northern blot analysis of rat tissues detected 4- and 3.5-kb transcripts in all tissues tested. A 2.5-kb transcript was detected only in testis.
