Serum/Glucocorticoid Regulated Kinase 2 (SGK2)

Serine/threonine-protein kinase Sgk2

Serum/Glucocorticoid Regulated Kinase 2 (SGK2)

Serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 2, is a serine/threonine protein kinase. Although this gene product is similar to serum- and glucocorticoid-induced protein kinase (SGK), this gene is not induced by serum or glucocorticoids.

This gene is induced in response to signals that activate phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, which is also true for SGK. Two alternate transcripts encoding two different isoforms have been described. SGK2-alpha encodes a protein of 367 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of about 41 kD. SGK2-beta encodes a protein of 427 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of about 48 kD. SGK2 shares about 80% sequence identity with SGK1 and SGK3 (SGKL) within the central catalytic domain. Both the N and C termini share much less similarity.
