Spermatogonium Cells (SPC)

The testis is a male organ that produces large numbers of sperm and it is found in nearly all animal species. Spermatogonia are a heterogeneous group of proliferative cells in the testis that are the precursor cells for mature sperm. Spermatogonia include the spermatogonial stem cell population in the testis, as well as their mitotically proliferating descendants. Spermatogonial stem cells, like all stem cells, have the ability to self-renew so that males retain an ability to continue forming sperm for most, if not all, of their life. Spermatogonial stem cells are thought to reside in a special region, called the stem cell niche, that allows them to retain their stem cell traits.
