Transmembrane Protein 204 (TMEM204)

CLP24; C16orf30; Claudin-like protein 24

Transmembrane Protein 204 (TMEM204)
CLP24 shares 89% and 87% amino acid identity to the rat and mouse orthologs, respectively. Northern blot analysis detected a 1.9-kb transcript in human lung, heart, kidney, and placenta with lower expression in thymus, spleen, and liver. Expression profiling of human cell lines detected CLP24 in specific endothelial and epithelial cell populations.
CLP24 localized to intercellular junctions in MDCK cells and colocalized with ZO1 (TJP1) and beta-catenin (CTNNB1). Computer-generated cross-section scanning localized CLP24 throughout intercellular junctions and showed colocalization at adherens junctions with beta-catenin in a manner distinct from the apical face localization of ZO1.
