Umbilical Artery Endothelial Cells (UAEC)

Umbilical Artery Endothelium

Umbilical Artery Endothelial Cells (UAEC)

Vascular endothelial cells, which are composed of a layer of flat cells, between blood and blood vessels. They can  process the metabolism of blood and tissue fluid exchange, and can synthesize and secrete a variety of bioactive substances, to ensure the normal vascular contraction and relaxation.Vascular endothelial cells play a role in the maintenance of vascular tone and to maintain blood flow and vascular long-term patency. They are diverse and have specific characteristics and functions in different organs and tissues. Umbilical artery endothelial cells (UAEC) have a “cobblestone” morphology, show positive staining for vWF/Factor VIII and CD-31, and the ability to take up acetylated low-density lipoprotein. Cells pretreated with IL-1 or TNF-alpha also selectively express E-selectin and VCAM.
