Uridine Cytidine Kinase Like Protein 1 (UCKL1)

URKL1

Uridine Cytidine Kinase Like Protein 1 (UCKL1)
UCKL1 contains 548 amino acids. Its N-terminal half has an ATP/GTP-binding site and shares similarity with uridine kinase-1 (UCK1) and UCK2, and its C-terminal half shares similarity with uracil phosphoribosyltransferases. This variant encodes a 395-amino acid protein lacking the C-terminal uracil phosphoribosyltransferase region. Northern blot analysis revealed ubiquitous expression of a 2.4-kb UCKL1 transcript. Fluorescence microscopy showed cytoplasmic localization of UCKL1 in transfected monkey kidney cells.UCKL1 interacted with EBNA3, an EBV transformation-associated nuclear antigen. EBNA3 induced translocation of UCKL1 from the cytoplasm to the nucleus in transfected monkey kidney cells, and the translocation depended on the C terminus of UCKL1.
