Uterine Smooth Muscle Cells (USMC)

The myometrium is the middle layer of the uterine wall, consisting mainly of uterine smooth muscle cells (USMC), also called uterine myocytes, but also of supporting stromal and vascular tissue. Its main function is to induce uterine contractions. In recent years, the study showed that the main cellular components caused the uterine fibroids and other diseases in uterine are the uterine smooth muscle cells. USMC is an experimental model to study the growth and differentiation of uterine smooth muscle cells, pathological changes caused by various pathogenic factors. Uterine smooth muscle cells can be used for the research of pathogenesis and drug therapy for uterus diseases.
