V-Ral Simian Leukemia Viral Oncogene Homolog A (RALA)
RALA belongs to the small GTPase superfamily, Ras family of proteins. GTP-binding proteins mediate the transmembrane signaling initiated by the occupancy of certain cell surface receptors. This gene encodes a low molecular mass ras-like GTP-binding protein that shares about 50% similarity with other ras proteins.
Cancer-associated A-beta mutants failed to reverse this tumorigenic phenotype, indicating that the mutants functioned as null alleles. Cancer-derived A-beta mutants failed to form a complex with the small GTPase RALA, whereas wildtype A-beta-containing complexes dephosphorylated RALA at ser183 and ser194, inactivating RALA and abolishing its transforming function.
