WD Repeat And SOCS Box Containing Protein 1 (WSB1)

SWIP1; WSB-1; SOCS box-containing WD protein SWiP-1

WD Repeat And SOCS Box Containing Protein 1 (WSB1)
WSB1 encodes a member of the WD-protein subfamily. This protein shares a high sequence identity to mouse and chick proteins. It contains several WD-repeats spanning most of the protein and an SOCS box in the C-terminus. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. The deduced 421-amino acid protein contains 8 WD repeats, which span most of the protein, and a C-terminal SOCS box with a potential tyrosine phosphorylation site. Chicken and human SWIP1 share 88% amino acid identity. In addition, about 200 bp in the 3-prime UTRs of the human and chicken SWIP1 cDNAs share significant similarity.Swip1 transcription was regulated by Shh emitted by the notochord and was repressed by signals from the lateral plate. In limb bud, Swip1 was induced by ectopic Shh.
