Zinc Finger Protein 280A (ZNF280A)
ZNF280, SUHW1; ZNF636; Suppressor Of Hairy Wing Homolog 1

ZNF280A was predicted both by automated computational analysis and by similarity to a Drosophila gene and to predicted genes in other species (sheep, chimp, dog, cow). The predicted protein of this gene is similar to Drosophila suppressor of hairy wing protein, a leucine zipper protein which represses the function of transcriptional enhancers of the gypsy retrotransposon.
The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a krueppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. SUHW1 is a 542 amino acid protein that contains four C2H2-type zinc fingers. Localized to the nucleus, SUHW1 is thought to function as a transcription factor that may mediate transcriptional regulation events.
