Zinc Finger Protein 436 (ZNF436)
ZNF436 gene contains 3 exons and spans approximately 8.4 kb.ZNF436 encodes a predicted 470-amino acid protein with an N-terminal KRAB-A box, which is conserved across different species from rat to human, and 12 C-terminal C2H2 zinc fingers. RT-PCR analysis detected ZNF436 expression in all fetal tissues examined, with highest levels in brain and heart. Fluorescence studies localized the ZNF436 protein to the nucleus and cytoplasm.
Overexpression of ZNF436 in COS-7 cells strongly repressed transcription mediated by the serum response element (SRE) and the AP1 promoter. The authors suggested that ZNF436 may act as a negative regulator in gene transcription mediated by the MAPK signaling pathways.
