Zinc Ribbon Domain Containing Protein 1 (ZNRD1)
ZNRD1 encodes a protein with similarity to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rpa12p subunit of RNA polymerase I. Alternate splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein. Additional splice variants have been described, but their full-length sequences have not been determined.
Lepourcelet et al. (1996) identified ZNRD1, which they called HTEX6, as 1 of several genes in the HLA-A /HLA-F region of chromosome 6. The deduced protein contains 2 potential zinc-binding motifs and shows significant homology with the A12.2 subunit of yeast polymerase I and mouse Tctex6. Coriton et al. (2000) cloned ZNRD1 from a testis cDNA library. The deduced protein contains 126 amino acids. They also identified splice variants predicted to encode shorter peptides.
