Heat Shock 70kDa Protein 9 (HSPA9)
HSPA9contains both heat-inducible and constitutively expressed members. The latter are called heat-shock cognate proteins. This gene encodes a heat-shock cognate protein. This protein plays a role in the control of cell proliferation. It may also act as a chaperone.Mortal and immortal cells exhibit differential cellular localization of mortalin. All immortal human and mouse cells that have been tested are devoid of the uniformly distributed cytosolic form of the protein that is characteristic of normal cells. Senescent cultured cells were transiently induced to divide by the microinjection of anti-mortalin antibody. Expression of the cytosolic form (mot1) induced senescence of NIH 3T3 cells that normally harbor the perinuclear form (mot2), which differs from the cytosolic form by 2 amino acids.
